Here's the picture.

What do you think?  I've been making large hexagons for Lynne's Hexalong, and I made this.

Now, I'm not quite sure about it.  It's kinda funky and I think it plays tricks on my eyes.

It's interesting but I wonder what you think?

Is the fabric wrong?  Is just the whole design wrong?

I think I'll hang on to it until I'm done with all the rest and see if it fits in anywhere on the quilt.

I'm I the only one who feels this way?

This month's Doggy Stitch is done.  Remember I'm using LMS's Birdie Stitches and making one for my niece with the dogs.  I could only fit one dog on here with the sparkler, but it works.  (There were originally two birdies.)

I finished my last Swoon block, and I really like this one.  I sewed the same section wrong twice! One more time and I would've had to replace fabric, but all's well that ends well.

This is a horrible picture here, but I was testing out placement of my blocks.  I was really hoping to have them sewn together, but life with the munchkins would not allow it.  That's why this pic was taken on my bed, not the floor, where it should be.

Oh, and spending the weekend at Atlantis on Paradise Island didn't help with the no sewing, however it did help the insanity!

I had a few extra HSTs and made two pillows.  Well, the pillows aren't actually made yet, but they will be....
And finally, since all of my embroidery is up to date, I've been doing some Paper Piecing, following along with Lynne of Lily's Quilts Hexalong.  These are nice big hexagons and it's a great way to relax my mind!

Here's to a productive week for you and me!

Doggy Quilt

Jael by SoSarahSews
Jael, a photo by SoSarahSews on Flickr.

Here are some pictures of the blocks that I've made using most of the Birdie Stitches pattern that Corey from Little Miss Shabby has created.  (I like the last one, he looks like he's stopping to smell the flowers.)

I've made a set of birdies for my niece, Hannah, who's Mommy and Daddy have decorated her room with birds. But my niece, Jael's Mommy and Daddy love miniature dachshunds, so I went with this cute doggy!

I've enjoyed having a late night project that is quiet.  It's something to do while my husband and I are relaxing and watching TV together.  (Well, he's watching, I'm just being there with him, yet being productive.)

Friday

You can win this quilt kit here!  I know I want to!

I have much in store for this weekend.  Two more Swoon block to finish, then I'll be done with the quilt top! I think I'm going to use a sheet for the back of the quilt.  Or maybe just muslin. I like how soft those are.  And they seem to be more economical.  Do you know of a better option?  It's just so much fabric for the back...let me know what you think!

Have a great Friday!

WiP Wednesday 2

I just love how this

Can go to this
  in a day.

I spent all Sunday evening and into the night cutting things and getting ready to piece.

I had enough to do four more blocks and this is where I am.

I ran out of white for the other two.

I'm dying to get this finished, because it might actually go on my bed!  We'll see how the hubby likes it.  Right now, he uses the family tree quilt I made him and I use my son's old comforter....no, I'm not posting pictures...it's not a pretty sight.

Anyway, I will go to the store when I get a break from these 3 boys, because they absolutely hate going to the quilt store with me.  (I've been known to use it as a motivational tool, "Clean your room or we won't go on a bike ride, we'll just go to Joann's instead!" You should see how fast they move.)

Anyway, I'm linking up with

Cutting, Sewing, Ironing, Cutting

After that title....my arm hurts....and I'm going to bed!

....BUT....I'm all squared up and ready for tomorrow.

A New Project - WOW

Here's my first block of my new project.

It was a little more time-consuming for this one, probably because it was my first block and because of the directional fabric.  I wanted to make sure all the little birdies were right side up.

I'm linking with Esther's Blog for herWOW-Work in progress on Wednesday (even though it's still Tuesday here in the Miami, FL!

Sewing with my niece

My niece, Brooke, was over for a few days last week and we decided that it was time for her to learn how to sew.

So she raided my stash and chose a few fabrics that she liked.

After looking over many different bags, she decided that she'd rather make a pillow for her room.

So she came up with the design.

We stayed up late, after all the boys went to bed, and sewed until it was finished.

And here it is!

  A "B" for her name.

I love the fabrics she chose.

She's got great taste!
Here's the back.

She said she was going to tell her mom, "Look what Aunt Sarah bought me!" and see if her mom could tell that she made it.

That makes me happy!
Making memories and making pillows.

Lovely Quilt

P1010102P1010101P1010100P1010099P1010098P1010097

Lovely Quilt, a set on Flickr.

This is my Lovely Quilt. No really, it's made using Sandy Gervais' line Lovely.

It was fun and easy to make. It's just a disappearing nine patch then a few borders to compliment.

I used two charm packs and complimentary fabrics from my fabric store.

The backing is pretty close to the same color as was in the original line. I thought it was a great addition for the backing.

The quilting was done by me on the sewing machine...I really want a long arm quilting machine. I did a new kind of flower that (I think) I came up with on my own. But it seems that when I think it's my own, someone else out there has had the same idea. Anyway, the border is a scroll patterns.

Another finished quilt in 2011! This one's for sale, but if I don't get what I want for it, I'll give it as a gift in December. :)

Christmas in July!

There will probably be a lot of people talking about Christmas in July....

But I just finished my beautiful Christmas Quilt, so I will be joining them!

Here it is!

Okay, so I joined Lily at lilysquilts.com and tried my hand at my first Quilt as You Go Project.

I really liked it.  We used her dresden pattern, to make six of these:

Then I was able to free motion quilt with a lot more detail than I've done before, because it was so easy to move the fabric around.

This is the back:

And the front.

The lighting doesn't really show the detail on the front like it does on the back, but in person it shows.

I love this quilt!  Usually I give them away or try to sell them, but this will be mine for a long time!

I've linked up with Lily'sQuilts for Fresh Sewing Day.  Check it out and see what others are doing.
