Millefiori Quilt

When I saw Willyne Hammerstein’s quilt many years ago, I knew I had to do it! The pattern was beautiful, although I didn’t really like the colours she used. That’s the great thing about quilting. You can change things up and make it your own.

I finished this quilt March 29, 2016. (I can’t believe I haven’t looked at my blog in that long!)

Superheroes Quilt

My son was turning 9 and loved Marvel superheroes. He also told me it was time I made him a new quilt.  So I made one for him he could treasure forever. (I know if my husband had this quilt when he was young he would have held on to it forever!)

I started with a Pinterest search of marvel superhero paper piecing patterns. These images are copyrighted, so the lovely person who made these patterns cannot get paid for them. She has generously put them on the internet for everyone to use! A simple search will turn up almost any character you can think of.

Millefiori

Well I've jumped in and have started a new project. La Passacaglia quilt. 

I just love all the pics on the Facebook page and winter is perfect timing for couch sewing. I've finished all of my other hand sewn projects (which I'll be showing you later) so it's on with the new! 

Here's a few rosette centres I've put together. I still need to get the fabric for the star points, as I've decided to keep them all the same.  I'll be adding to these rosettes soon. 

 I'm excited about it and can't wait to show you the progress. 

Only thing I can't decide is if I want to paper piece or hand sew without the paper. I did this one without paper and it went fast, but I had to focus a lot more on the actual sewing. So I'm not sure. 

Also in the world is the works is a Marvel superheroes quilt for my son. More on that soon!

Crazy Hexies Quilt Finished

Here is my first completely hand pieced and hand quilted quilt.

It's a good lap/baby size. 

A while ago I cut up all my scraps from the past few years into 2.5" squares. I used a lot of them for this quilt but still have more. 

It's kinda grown on me. I wasn't sure if I liked it or not, but in the end, I do. 

I quilted around the hexagons in a flower shape. You can only really see it from the back, which is nice because it needed something interesting. 

Endings and beginnings

I've finished hand quilting two baby/ throw sized quilts and have made the bindings to finish them off. Pics to come soon. 

And I've finally started my son's quilt. Can you guess the theme?

Iron man's face is a little off. I must have messed up when I was enlarging the pattern. But I'm sure my sons won't even notice. Mum's the word!

Also, if you haven't made anything pumpkin flavoured yet, then you need a taste of Autumn. These pumpkin cheesecake bars from (http://www.the-girl-who-ate-everything.com/2013/10/pumpkin-cream-cheese-bars.html) are awesome. 

Mice!

Sometime last year I saw the cutest thing on mmmcraft (http://mmmcrafts.blogspot.co.uk). 

They were the cutest little mice living in an old altoid tin. I knew that all my little nieces would love this type of thing.  They love little things. So I made a bunch and have them all ready to go to America with my mom later this month. Just in time for Christmas. 

They are all girls except for one. And he had a green Hulk bear. 

They all wrote a little note to their new friend and have special instructions to whisper to the mouse anything they want Aunt Sarah to know and pray about and the mouse will tell me. 

They were fun to make.  Instead of altoid tins (not easy to find here in UK) I bought some cute little tins off of ebay for £1. I forgot to take a pic of the top, but each set of sisters has a different colour mouse and tin so they know who belongs to whom. 

Yay for some Christmas gifts done in October!

Triangles!

A friend asked me to make a triangle quilt, which has been on my "to try" list for a long time. 

I only have the two pictures she sent, because I forgot to take some before I sent it to her, of course! 

But it was fun and easy!

A year has come and gone.

It's been a year since my last post. I can't say I'm back on posting all the time, but I do have some things to share. And they'll probably always be posted from my phone because I just don't have time for the computer these days. Sorry if it's bad quality! 

I received a wonderful email from a blog friend. She asked if I was still around since she hasn't seen anything for a long time. That was such a surprise and so sweet. So, here I am!

So I've been doing a lot of paper piecing lately because I've been sitting in doctors offices a lot lately. Things are finally seeming to come under control but then it's almost winter and there's nothing better than sitting on the couch with the kids and sewing. 

This is the quilt I've been working on lately. I'm currently hand quilting it. It's not so bad actually. But I may be having some pain in my wrist from it. Or the pain could be from the new meds I'm on. Either way I'm persevering, however taking it a bit slower. 

The back is all purple. It just seemed to fit with the front. I'm still looking for the right binding.

Finished!

Look what's finished! 

My scrap buster quilt using Little Miss Shabby's tutorial. 

This has been a fun long term project. I've been doing a few blocks here and there, whenever I had enough tiny scraps to make a block. I haven't touched this quilt in over a year and a half. 

I decided to get a finish under my belt. 

I joined with the purge along at Stitched in Color and happily cut up nearly every piece of scrap that I had and finished this baby up. I really like it. I seems heavier than other quilts. I'm not sure if it's because there's so many little pieces and the seams add weight or what. I do know that I love it.

I made a shirt!

I did some selfish sewing this week. 

And I made myself a new shirt!

I didn't have a pattern. I used a shirt I already had and made a rough pattern. 

This is the first time I've ever sewn clothes for myself. 

And look! It even has some gathers around the neck.

I definitely plan on making a few more of these. I'm so proud of myself! :)

Cassidy's Quilt

Remember when I told you that I made a quilt for all three of my nieces before I left for England...over a year ago?

Well, here's the last one. I've shared Brooke's and Taylor's, and finally here is Cassidy's.

This quilt is made using a Drunkard's Path pattern.  I really enjoyed making it for Cass.
She said she wanted colors that weren't too girly.  And I thought these fit the bill perfectly.

For the quilting, I just followed the seams around.  I like how it accentuates the pattern.  And I also like how every time  I look at this quilt I see a different pattern emerge.

So here they are all together. The three quilts for the three sisters. As different as they are from each other, but all so beautiful!

A Baby Quilt

Prepare yourself...I have some horrible pictures of a really cute quilt.

It's such a shame, too! Because this quilt is so sweet! I made it last year with my son's teacher. It's made of her daughter's baby clothes.





 Look at the little ruffles from the bottom of a onesie! Oh, I could just eat this up.  I only wish I had better pictures. 

I quilted it with swirls and hearts to go with the really girly feel of the quilt. 

The mom LOVED it and was so happy.

Most squares are 4" and then there's little 2x2" squares that I put together to make them 4". 


I used an old crib sheet to fill in some empty squares and then for the binding. 

I just love this quilt and am so glad I could help a great teacher make it!

Finished Swoon

This is a quilt top that I made soooo long ago. Just before the Swoon craze took off. Then it sat forever! I finally finished it a year ago...and now I'm finally showing it to you!

There's really no explanation needed for this quilt.  It's been done time and time again.  I've used blues and greens and white Kona for the background.  Swirly quilting.  This quilt is big!

I intended to use it for my bed, but my husband is not a big fan.  BUT during the colder winter nights, he surely wasn't complaining! He's noticed that I've managed to get it on the bed when I can.  ;)

Taylor's Quilt

Before I moved away in June, I wanted to make all of my nieces a quilt. 














I made my nephew one for his birthday in December.  A camo bento block quilt.

Next on the list was Taylor.  She likes bright colors.  She like loud and happy.

I settled on the Kaleidoscope Quilt and followed the quilt along from Don't Call Me Betsy.

It was easy to put together and came together quickly.

For the quilting followed the lines of the design, but slightly bent, to add more interest.

She really liked it and it seemed to fit her personality, from when she was little even to now, the beautiful 14 year old she is.

A Quilt in a Day

My meetings were cancelled yesterday...so I made this!

Cut, pieced, basted, quilted, bound...all in one day.

That would have been impossible just a year ago.  But things get easier and faster as you go along, don't they?

It's made using all my scraps from burp cloths that I've made over the years.  It's all cozy snuggle flannel and soft green minky.  It really is so soft and sweet. 

It's my first time doing straight line quilting like this.  And I think I can do it because of the magic of 505 basting spray.  If I can do it on this type of fabric, I think I can do it on any!
