Tell me what you think!

I've got the Quilting for Kids     Garden Fence quilt up on the wall.

The original pattern has 1 inch white sashing around all the blocks, like the way that looks in this picture.

With Sashing

But.....I'm LOVING the purples and pinks together, without the sashing.  I think it works well without the sashing because the pinks and purples are all different shades and designs.

But I really want to know what you think.  Do you think it's too much?  Does it need to be separated by the white?

Please comment and let me know what you think...sooner rather than later, because I'm tempted to just start sewing! And take the poll ---> over there, at the top on the right!

Thank you!

And I'm linked up with WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced

  1. I really like it both ways. I do like the white sashing between the blocks, but I also think in your version, the colours vary enough that it still definitely feels like separate blocks. Also, in looking again, in your version I find that my eyes are drawn to the small white sashing squares within each block, whereas in the picture with the yellows, my eyes are drawn to the larger white sashing. I like your way, it just gives it a different look but that is a good thing in this case!

  2. Gosh, it looks lovely! I vote for the white sashing to be added. I think it would help the pinks and purples to pop more, instead of blending.

  3. I like without the white sashing. More of the pink/purple together, and it looks less formal and structured which I like. Just my 2 cents!

  4. Both ways could work but I would add the white sashing. ZiaMaria is right on making the colors pop rather than blend. It would also make each print stand out.

  5. I go with the others, I think both ways would work but I would also add the sashing. But it already looks lovely, great job!

  6. I love it just the way it is; like the intermixing of all those colors wet off just enough by the white. Julierose--lovely blocks

  7. I think it looks great both ways! So maybe it should come down to size. If the sashing is going to make it huge and terribly difficult to quilt maybe you should skip it. If it's not quite as big as you want it to be then you should add the sashing.

  8. Yes both are good but I say without the extra sashing. It's fun to see all of them just blended together being connected through the white of each block. Kinda like life in a few ways. Great job my dear! ♥

  9. I like them both but would choose no sashing because I think it looks more "teenage girl" that way. It's so nice to see this quilt coming together!

  10. I could see it both ways - but I like it without the sashing. I love those colors!

  11. I say no sashing - the pinks and purples are beautiful, and I think the white sashing breaks that up a bit. Lovely quilt!

  12. My fave is with sashing, but, because it's for a kid, I'd go with no sashing. For me the sashing gives restraint and order, something kids just don't love! No sashing makes it much more vital and exuberant, something kids love.

    It's gorgeous either way!

  13. Both ways will be great, but I think I would go with no sashing. I like the colors mingling! I think the sashing makes it a little more formal, does that make sense?

  14. I think Toni says it all - either way will be lovely but without sashing makes it younger and more modern I think. Anyway, I`ve voted!

  15. I'm actually making a green version of this pattern for my sister and have chosen not to put the sashing around the blocks in. I think it flows better and you get the Greek cross effect where the blocks meet.

There's a picture of my start here:

So obviously I'm for not putting the sashing in!

  16. It is beautiful either way, but I think I like it without the sashing best!

  17. I vote for the sashing. I love the "clean" look it gives. I think sashing makes each block "pop", instead of running together.

  18. I'm on the no-sashing side. I love the different prints right next to each other.

  19. I love your colour choices. Just beautiful! I'm kind of leaning on the sashing side. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this.

  20. I love both, but with this quilt I'm kind of leaning to the no sashing side. It's less formal and I like the way the purples and pinks are next to each other.

  21. Personally, I LOVE purples! I also love when they are all mixed together. The sashing looks nice, but I think it actually draws too much attention to itself. You see more of the color without the sashing. Either way it will look AWESOME! =)

  22. I like it better without the sashing because you start to see a secondary pattern emerge. I think that's the case with many block designs that get lost with the sashing. That said, I think you have a winner either way.

  23. Looks great! I like it either way actually -- the sashing gives it a different feel but I kind of like it without better. What a beautiful quilt this is going to be!!!

  24. I would definitely leave out the sashing. I think it breaks up the pattern too much.

  25. It's beautiful, with white blocks will highlight more

  26. Oooh, I kind of like it without the sashing! I've seen that pattern around a lot, so any time you can put you own spin on a design like that, I think you should, for the sake of being unique. : ) Great colors and fabric choices. Thanks for linking up to WIP Wednesday!
