It's not that bad

Did you ever have one of those projects, where you've started something, then you're not feeling so great about it?
That's what this project was for me.

It started with a charm pack of fabric I wasn't too sure about.

I wanted to try a new design that I've never tried...and since I'm kind of new I thought I would do some of the traditional things, to kind of get them under my belt, so to speak.

So I started with the diamonds.

Then I put them down....for a long time.....

Then I decided in order for me to start other things that I really want to do, I must finish off the things I've already purchased.  That was the motivation I needed to finish this thing up.

And in the end....I decided....it's not that bad.

I've put it up for sale in my etsy shop and will see if anyone likes it.
If not, I'll hold on to it until a friend has a baby girl.

One Thing One Week Challenge

Amy at amyscreativeside has challenged us to finish just one thing this past week.

I picked a very doable goal for me, since I was going to be out of town for 3 days, then have hubby's birthday party to prepare for.  What I didn't anticipate is 3 sick kids to top it all off.  But I was able to finish my goal and soooo much more! (Mostly because hubby had to go out two days to different events that I was supposed to go to, but was home with the kids instead.)

So here is the finished goal:

Two blocks of embroidery for my birdie stitches quilt.  I brought it along with me to do while we were on the road.

Here's what I didn't expect to get finished! My Christmas quilt! I'll post more about this later.

Awesome Shopping Day

Can you guess how much I paid for all of this?

I'll give you a hint. It's total value is about $210.00.

I paid............$50.83!!!!!!!!!!
I am so excited.

Here's what I bought:
5 packages of bamboo batting 60x60
Set of 4 square block rulers
Package of Hexagon re-usable templates
2 fat quarters
2 spools of thread
 15 embroidery thread
4 zippers, various colors/sizes
Large buttons 6 pack
Disappearing fine point pen
2 pack baby iron-on
Various pirate stickers for my son's birthday party

The store was relocating.  I never made it until this weekend, which is the last weekend that it will be open. I thought for sure I wouldn't find anything.  The fabric was all taped up and you had to buy the bolt, but really there was not that much left, only some canvas and home fabrics that were nice.
I was pleasantly surprised! And so was hubby!

Interfacing

There is an awesome post about interfacing on Mauby's website.

I've only just begun exploring any area outside of sewing quilts.
I made these money cuffs for my kids.  Well, the boy ones are for my boys.  I made the girl ones to try to sell.  (A Lemon Squeezy Home has a GREAT tutorial for these lunch money cuffs.)
But this is the first time I've used interfacing, and frankly I didn't know how or why to use it, but Mauby's tutorial is very helpful.  I've bookmarked it for future reference and you should too!

Aiden's Baby Quilt

Aiden's MickeyAiden's Mickey

Aiden's Baby Quilt, a set on Flickr.
My husband's friend from work is having a baby boy.
Now that I've been sewing, he wanted me to make a little something for her new son.
The information he brought home to me was, "She likes Mickey and sports."

Ok....well, there were no fabrics with Mickey playing sports, so I just went with a simple little design.

I got the minky fabric as remnants and tried them out. They weren't that bad to work with, but if I had to do extensive sewing with them, I would've gone a little crazy.

So here it is baby boy, we welcome you!

My New Blog

So, this is it. I've been busy working on my sewing for about 10 months now, and I am finally going to start chronicling my adventures.  Mostly for my own sake, because when I make something new, I really want to show it off.
It's been fun. Pictures to come!
